Les Oiseaux du Jardin Majorelle: A New Exhibition Celebrating Biodiversity in Marrakech
In the heart of Marrakech, where the city’s vibrant rhythm gently fades into moments of quiet contemplation, the iconic Jardin Majorelle unveils a new cultural and ecological experience. Titled “Les Oiseaux du Jardin Majorelle,” this immersive exhibition opens to the public on April 16, 2026, inviting visitors to rediscover one of the city’s most emblematic spaces through the lens of biodiversity.

Set within the garden’s temporary pavilion, the exhibition offers a thoughtful exploration of the remarkable avian life that inhabits this urban sanctuary. Over the years, more than thirty species of birds have made the garden their home, transforming it into a thriving refuge for a diverse range of insectivorous, granivorous, and omnivorous species. This coexistence creates a living ecosystem where nature unfolds in harmony, just steps away from the bustling city.
At the core of this initiative lies a carefully designed ecological balance. The layered vegetation, from herbaceous plants to shrubs and towering trees, provides varied habitats that support nesting, feeding, and shelter. Water points scattered throughout the garden further sustain this delicate ecosystem, offering essential resources for hydration and reproduction. These elements collectively reinforce the Jardin Majorelle’s role as a haven for wildlife within an urban environment.

More than an exhibition, Les Oiseaux du Jardin Majorelle is a scientific and sensory journey. Developed in collaboration with renowned experts in ornithology and ecology, including Raphaël Musseau, Rhimou El Hamoumi, and Mohamed Radi, the project blends academic insight with accessible storytelling. Visitors are encouraged to slow down, observe, and engage with the natural world in a more attentive way, turning a simple walk into a meaningful educational experience.
This exhibition also reflects the garden’s long-standing environmental commitment. By avoiding ecotoxic phytosanitary products, preserving soil richness through organic matter, and promoting natural food resources, the Jardin Majorelle continues to uphold sustainable practices that support a resilient and balanced ecosystem.
Complementing the exhibition, a conference titled “Oiseaux du Maroc” will take place on April 18 at the Auditorium Pierre Bergé. Led by Dr. Raphaël Musseau, the talk will offer deeper insights into Morocco’s avifauna, exploring its diversity, habitats, and the challenges surrounding its preservation.
Originally created in 1924 by French painter Jacques Majorelle and later restored by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, the Jardin Majorelle has long stood as a symbol of artistic and botanical heritage. Today, through this new exhibition, it continues to evolve, offering visitors a renewed perspective on the relationship between nature, culture, and sustainability.
Les Oiseaux du Jardin Majorelle is more than an exhibition. It is an invitation to pause, listen, and rediscover the extraordinary beauty of the natural world hidden in plain sight
