KOUN Klub Community Marks a Year of Collective Impact

KOUN gathered its partners at Lalla Meryem beach in Casablanca for its annual meeting, and the setting felt deliberate. Sand and sea framed a review of nine consecutive years of environmental action carried out with partner companies through KOUN Klub. The gathering also closed the first edition of KOUN Klub Community, a wider citizen circle built to extend the Klub’s reach beyond the corporate world. What began in 2017 as a structured waste collection programme has grown into something closer to a movement, one that now touches schools, neighbourhoods and everyday households across the city.

A Programme Built on Repetition

Since its launch, KOUN Klub has asked partner companies to commit to a simple but demanding routine: collecting non hazardous solid waste while raising awareness among their own employees. This consistency, rather than any single grand gesture, is what links corporate CSR commitments to measurable results. It also gives materials that would otherwise end up discarded a second life. As a result, environmental responsibility becomes less of a slogan and more of a habit, repeated year after year until it simply becomes part of how a company operates.

What Is KOUN Klub Community?

KOUN Klub Community takes that same logic and opens it up. Instead of limiting participation to businesses, it invites organisations, citizens and local communities who want to act on environmental issues in tangible ways. Collection drives, awareness sessions, upcycling workshops, sport initiatives tied to the environment and material valorisation all sit under this umbrella. The ambition is clear: to turn circular economy principles into a collective experience that people can measure and live day to day, rather than an abstract policy discussion reserved for boardrooms.

Five Formats, One Shared Goal

Between March and June 2026, KOUN Klub Community rolled out five distinct activity formats in public schools and among women’s communities in peri-urban neighbourhoods. These included nature collection operations, upcycling workshops, awareness meetings, sports activities and moments dedicated to reconnecting with the natural environment. Each format targeted a different audience and setting, yet all of them shared the same underlying purpose: making sustainable habits accessible outside the usual corporate framework, and proving that circular economy action can start with something as ordinary as a school playground.

The Numbers Behind the Impact

The results from this first edition give the programme real weight. Nearly 10,000 people were made aware of circular economy practices, while more than six tonnes of material were collected and later transformed through upcycling. These figures matter because they move the conversation past intention. Furthermore, they show that when access is simplified and actions are broken into small, repeatable gestures, participation follows at scale, even in communities that rarely feature in sustainability narratives.

Voices Behind the Vision

Saadia Bennani, President of Fondation Valyans and Co-manager of KOUN, described KOUN as a direct expression of the Foundation’s belief that social and environmental innovation can drive lasting transformation across territories. She noted that by bringing together companies, citizens and local actors around shared responsibility, new circular and inclusive value chains can emerge. Nada Diouri, Secretary of Fondation Valyans and Co-manager of KOUN, added that this first edition of KOUN Klub Community confirms a genuine appetite to act, beyond speeches, and that the goal now is to create value from what was once considered finished.

KOUN itself operates as a platform of Moroccan circular economy brands, and it controls the entire chain, from consulting and awareness to the collection of non hazardous solid materials and their transformation into desirable objects. KOUN Konseil supports organisations through their transition toward circular practices, covering waste management, responsible purchasing and Scope 3 impact. KOUN Kollections closes the loop on the creative side, turning saved materials, including vegetal leather, recovered plastic and VHS tape, into premium pieces. Three entities, one conviction ties the whole structure together: what seemed finished is often only the beginning.

A Foundation Rooted in Impact

Behind KOUN stands Fondation Valyans, a catalyst for social innovation across Morocco and Africa. Its stated vision is to help a new generation of development models emerge, ones that are inclusive, sustainable and built to scale. The Foundation works through experimentation, capitalisation and structured scale up, and it supports several impact initiatives beyond KOUN, including the Al Ikram association, Koun Ambassadeurs Club and Craft’UP Africa. In this sense, KOUN Klub Community is not an isolated project but one piece of a broader strategy focused on inclusive economic models.

Turning Endings Into Beginnings

What stands out most about this first year of KOUN Klub Community is its refusal to treat sustainability as a one off event. Instead, the programme is built around repetition, accessibility and shared ownership between companies, schools and neighbourhoods. As KOUN looks to scale this model further, the underlying message stays consistent with the brand’s own philosophy: nothing is truly finished, it simply waits for the next chain of value to begin.
