August Cinema at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech

This August, the Auditorium Pierre Bergé at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech turns its attention to the big screen with a programme designed for different generations of film lovers.

Throughout the month, two weekly appointments shape the schedule. FILMINDIA takes over Monday evenings with a journey through Indian cinema, while Ciné Junior welcomes younger audiences every Wednesday morning. Together, they position cinema as a shared cultural experience at the heart of Marrakech.

FILMINDIA at the Pierre Bergé Auditorium

Every Monday at 7 pm, FILMINDIA explores the diversity of Indian cinema through a selection curated by Indian filmmaker and producer Nikkhil Advani.

Rather than focusing on a single period or cinematic style, the programme moves across almost six decades of filmmaking. Tamil, Hindi and Bengali productions appear throughout the cycle, moving from classic cinema to more contemporary independent works.

The August selection includes films by Mani Ratnam, Kundan Shah, Sudhir Mishra, Neeraj Ghaywan and Satyajit Ray. Each screening offers a different perspective on Indian storytelling, from social satire and personal narratives to reflections on history and changing societies.

Five Mondays, Five Films

The programme opened on August 3 with Mani Ratnam’s Kannathil Muthamittal, followed on August 10 by Kundan Shah’s Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron.

On August 17, the auditorium presents Sudhir Mishra’s Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, before continuing with Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan on August 24.

The cycle concludes on August 31 with Jalsaghar, Satyajit Ray’s 1958 classic, completing a programme that moves between generations, languages and cinematic movements.

Wednesdays Belong to Ciné Junior

Wednesday mornings take on a different rhythm with Ciné Junior, a programme created for children aged five and above.

Designed as an introduction to cinema, the series brings together works from different periods, countries and formats. Moreover, the selection introduces younger audiences to French, Arabic and English-language productions while exploring comedy, animation and classic storytelling.

The month began with The Great Dictator on August 5, followed by the Arabic-language Iftah Ya Simsim on August 12.

Pixar’s Ratatouille arrives on August 19, while The Adventures of Pinocchio closes the programme on August 26.

Cinema as a Shared Cultural Experience

Beyond individual screenings, the August programme reflects a broader idea of cinema as something passed between generations.

By welcoming established film enthusiasts on Monday evenings and younger viewers on Wednesday mornings, the Auditorium Pierre Bergé creates two different ways of discovering the medium. Yet both are connected by the same desire to make cinema accessible, curious and open to the world.
