TV5MONDE Showcases Moroccan Francophonie with a Special Cultural Evening

TV5MONDE is shining a spotlight on Morocco’s vibrant francophone culture with a special evening of programming dedicated to creativity, education, and tradition. On Thursday, September 25 at 8:05 p.m. (Rabat time), audiences will be invited on a journey through language, art, and music with the broadcast of Destination Francophonie au Maroc, followed by the documentary Maroc, la route de la musique.

A Journey Across Morocco’s Francophone Landscape

Presented by Ivan Kabacoff, Destination Francophonie au Maroc explores the people and initiatives that bring the French language to life in Morocco. From the bustling cultural scene of Tangier, where playwright Zoubeir Benbouchta animates conversations at the Institut Français and the iconic Les Insolites bookstore, to the innovation of Salma Balhouane in Tétouan, blending ancestral crafts with virtual reality, the program captures the dynamism of Moroccan francophonie.

The journey continues with Bibliotobiss, a mobile cultural center that brings books to rural communities in Sidi Kacem, and with the insights of journalist Sarah Jabri in Meknès. In Ben Guérir, the École Majorelle and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University highlight the role of education as a driver of francophone excellence. Finally, the story reaches Laâyoune and Tarfaya, where the literary heritage of Saint-Exupéry intersects with new cultural projects emerging on the edge of the Sahara.

Music as a Cultural Bridge

At 8:55 p.m., the evening transitions into a musical voyage with Maroc, la route de la musique, directed by Donat Lefebvre and Jérémie Saint-Jean. This documentary captures the soul of Morocco’s diverse musical traditions, from Rabat to Essaouira, Fès to Meknès. Featuring encounters with Amazigh, Sahrawi, Gnawa, and Andalusian musicians, it explores how these rich heritages are transmitted and reinvented for contemporary audiences.

Celebrating Creativity and Dialogue

Through these two complementary programs, TV5MONDE demonstrates how francophonie in Morocco is not only a shared language but also a living vehicle for creativity, education, and cultural dialogue. From classrooms to concert stages, and from literary salons to digital innovation labs, Moroccan francophonie emerges as both deeply rooted in history and boldly future-oriented.
