Najia Mehadji and Yamou Present Les natures invisibles at Comptoir des Mines in Marrakech
From February 5 to March 8, 2026, Les natures invisibles brings together two major figures of contemporary art, Najia Mehadji and Yamou, in a compelling exhibition at Comptoir des Mines in Marrakech. Presented by L’Atelier 21, the exhibition explores the invisible forces that shape the living world and the intimate dialogue between organic form and cosmic dimension.

A Dialogue Between the Infinitely Small and the Infinitely Vast
Les natures invisibles is conceived as a visual conversation between two artistic practices that resonate deeply with one another. Najia Mehadji and Yamou share a common sensitivity to the vital energies that traverse nature. Their works do not aim to replicate reality, but rather to reveal its hidden breath, its subtle and intangible presence.
Through abstraction, gesture and movement, both artists transform traditional ornamental references, particularly the arabesque, into living structures. What may initially evoke floral, vegetal or landscape elements gradually unfolds into something more expansive. The visible becomes a gateway to the invisible, where each fragment suggests a link to the cosmos.
Najia Mehadji: Gesture as Spiritual Architecture

Born in Paris in 1950, Najia Mehadji has been a prominent voice in contemporary art in both France and Morocco since the 1980s. Her dual cultural heritage informs a body of work that bridges East and West, tradition and modernity.
At the heart of her practice lies gesture. Her sweeping forms, inspired by calligraphy and movement, create compositions that feel at once meditative and dynamic. The canvas becomes a space of breath and rhythm, where abstraction conveys a deeply spiritual presence. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is included in numerous public and museum collections.
Yamou: The Living World as Abstraction

Born in Casablanca in 1959, Yamou initially trained in biology before turning fully to art. This scientific background continues to inform his visual language, which explores the structures and systems of the living world.
For over four decades, he has developed a singular practice situated between figuration and abstraction. The vegetal realm occupies a central place in his work, not as simple representation, but as a reflection on growth, mutation and the interconnectedness of life. His layered compositions suggest organic expansion, inviting viewers to contemplate the invisible processes that sustain existence.
A Major Contemporary Art Exhibition in Marrakech
Hosted at Comptoir des Mines, one of Marrakech’s key cultural venues, Les natures invisibles reinforces the city’s role as a vibrant destination for contemporary art in Morocco. The exhibition offers collectors, curators and art enthusiasts an immersive experience shaped by reflection, movement and subtle energy.
By bringing together Najia Mehadji and Yamou, L’Atelier 21 creates a refined encounter between two artistic visions that elevate abstraction beyond form. In Les natures invisibles, art becomes a means of perceiving what lies beneath the surface of reality, revealing the quiet resonance between nature, spirit and the infinite.
