Storm Shaker Returns: The MENA Region’s Biggest DJ Competition Levels Up at XP Music Futures 2025
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The region’s most electrifying DJ competition is back, bigger and bolder than ever. Storm Shaker, powered by the MDLBEAST Foundation, celebrates its fifth edition at XP Music Futures 2025 with an expanded prize package, global exposure, and a powerhouse lineup of international judges.
Since its inception, Storm Shaker has been a launchpad for emerging DJs across the Middle East and North Africa. This year, the competition raises the bar, offering the winner not only a prestigious live set at Soundstorm Festival 2025 in Riyadh but also a tour across five major international festivals. For young talent, this is more than a contest; it is a gateway to the global stage.
A Panel of Icons
The judging panel is stacked with some of the most influential names in the global electronic music scene. Returning to the panel is Baloo, MDLBEAST’s Chief Creative Officer and a central figure in shaping the regional scene. He is joined by Nikhil Chinapa of India’s Satellite Beachside, Milica Cvijetić from Croatia’s SEA STAR FESTIVAL, and DAOX, co-founder of Morocco’s MOGA Festival.
Adding extra star power this year is special guest judge Sama’ Abdulhadi, the Palestinian techno pioneer whose sets have dominated Boiler Room, Fabric, and Tomorrowland. Her presence promises to bring not just visibility but also invaluable mentorship to the next generation of DJs.
The Road to the Finals
The competition began in August, inviting aspiring DJs from across the MENA region to submit a 30-minute SoundCloud set showcasing their artistry and technical mastery. Ten semi-finalists will be shortlisted before moving to the video set stage, leading up to the live showdown at XP Music Futures this December.
In the finals, contestants will deliver 30-minute performances in front of the full judging panel and a live audience. The grand finale will see the top two talents battle head-to-head for the Storm Shaker 2025 crown.
Beyond the Competition
Storm Shaker is more than a contest, it is part of MDLBEAST’s broader mission to cultivate a thriving, sustainable, and inclusive music ecosystem in the Middle East. All four finalists will receive flights, accommodation, stage time at XP, and insider access to the region’s premier music conference.
