Yves Saint Laurent Onstage: A Theatrical Journey at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech

From January 31, 2026, Yves Saint Laurent Onstage opens at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, inviting visitors to discover a lesser known yet fundamental dimension of the couturier’s legacy. Dedicated to costumes and stage sets created for theater, music hall, and ballet, the exhibition explores how performance played a central role in shaping Yves Saint Laurent’s creative universe.

An Expanded Second Act, Exclusive to Marrakech

Conceived as the continuation of an exhibition first presented in Rome, the Marrakech edition unfolds with a more ambitious vision. Enriched with previously unseen pieces, this second act deepens the dialogue between fashion and the performing arts, offering visitors a broader and more immersive perspective on Yves Saint Laurent’s work for the stage.

Beyond Haute Couture: Fashion in Motion

While Yves Saint Laurent is globally celebrated for revolutionizing women’s wardrobes, his contribution to stage costume design remains equally remarkable. His passion for performance began early, with theatrical models created during his childhood in Oran. Throughout his career, he designed costumes as extensions of the body, conceived to support movement, freedom, and character. On stage, garments became expressive tools, enhancing presence and emotion rather than serving as simple decoration.

Inside the Creative Process

Yves Saint Laurent Onstage is designed as an immersive experience rather than a static exhibition. The scenography evokes the atmosphere of backstage, bringing together preparatory sketches, original costumes, stage elements, and archival materials. Visitors are invited to follow the creative journey from drawing to finished costume, witnessing how fabric, color, and form came together to bring characters to life.
