The Moroccan Caftan Takes the Milan Runway with Khadija Chraibi
As Milan Fashion Week opened on 23 September, the Moroccan caftan took its place on the runway. Designer Khadija Chraibi presented her work at the Leonardo da Vinci Museum as part of the Oriental Fashion Show, bringing Moroccan craftsmanship into a conversation with fashion traditions from Oman and Turkmenistan.

The caftan has long held a distinctive place in Moroccan dress. In Milan, Chraibi presented it as a contemporary couture piece while keeping its cultural heritage at the centre. Its appearance during Fashion Week also reflected the growing visibility of Moroccan design in cities such as Milan, Paris and Marrakech.
Three Designers, Three Traditions
Chraibi’s presentation shared the runway with Maison Yoland from the Sultanate of Oman and Gowher Gouvernet from Turkmenistan. Each brought a different perspective shaped by its own heritage. Together, the collections gave the evening its sense of exchange, with fashion serving as a meeting point between cultures.
A Tradition That Continues to Evolve
For the Oriental Fashion Show, the Milan presentation expressed a wider vision of fashion rooted in tradition and open to the future. Chraibi’s caftans made that idea tangible: a familiar Moroccan garment continuing to find new expression on the international runway.
