Leila Hadioui Marks Ten Years with Mémoire d’Étoffes
An Anniversary Told Through Fabric
For her tenth anniversary show, Leila Hadioui brought fashion and art into the same frame. Her collection, Mémoire d’Étoffes, explored the connections between Moroccan heritage, personal expression and the possibilities of fabric. Rather than looking back alone, the designer used the occasion to give familiar traditions a contemporary reading.

Mémoire d’Étoffes: From Canvas to Silhouette
The starting point lay in Hadioui’s own paintings. Blue, black, red and ecru shaped the collection’s palette, carrying her artistic vocabulary from canvas to clothing. Moreover, this relationship moved in both directions: fabric remnants from her creations became material for her artworks. Cloth took on the role of pigment, extending each garment’s story beyond the wardrobe.
Moroccan Bridal Jewellery, Reconsidered
At the centre of this exploration stood the traditional jewellery of the Moroccan bride. In collaboration with Salima Mennani, Hadioui reinterpreted this heritage as a statement piece worn at the ear. Here, the ornament became a defining element of the silhouette. Its placement offered a fresh expression while preserving its connection to Moroccan identity.

The Maâlem’s Hand
Alongside these artistic gestures, the collection paid tribute to the work of the Maâlem. The master artisan’s meticulous craftsmanship appeared in almost every creation, reflecting Hadioui’s attachment to the skills that shape Moroccan caftans. In turn, this attention to handwork grounded Mémoire d’Étoffes in a living tradition, carried forward through contemporary design.
A Second Life for Every Remnant
The dialogue continued in the hairstyling, where Salah Halouli braided and integrated leftover fabrics from the outfits. As a result, the material connected clothing, hair and artwork through a shared visual language. These details also gave the remnants a creative purpose, allowing them to become part of the finished presentation.
Heritage in Motion
Ultimately, Hadioui’s anniversary collection drew its character from the exchange between disciplines. Painting informed the clothes, while the clothes supplied material for new works. Through Mémoire d’Étoffes, ten years of creation became an opportunity to explore what comes next, with Moroccan craftsmanship and personal memory woven into the process.
