Suoni Mediterranei Brings Italy and Morocco Together in Tétouan
From 19 September to 2 October 2026, Tétouan and Matera will celebrate their shared status as Mediterranean Capitals of Culture and Dialogue. At the heart of the programme, Suoni Mediterranei Tétouan will bring together 32 Italian and Moroccan artists through a series of musical encounters.
Two Cities, One Cultural Vision
Known in French as Sons Méditerranéens, the project creates a bridge between Morocco and Italy. Music becomes a common language, connecting different traditions while highlighting the cultural ties that unite both sides of the Mediterranean.
Suoni Mediterranei Tétouan Opens on 19 September
The first free concert will take place on Saturday, 19 September at 6:00 PM. Solisti Lucani will perform at the Auditorium of Tétouan’s National Institute of Fine Arts, introducing the public to a repertoire that moves between classical music, contemporary creation and experimentation.
Solisti Lucani, A New Generation from Matera
Founded in Matera in 2019, Solisti Lucani brings together 18 musicians playing violins, violas, cellos and double bass. Moreover, Italy’s Ministry of Culture recognises the ensemble as a young instrumental group. Its work supports emerging performers while encouraging a fresh dialogue between musical heritage and new forms of expression.
A Moroccan-Italian Encounter on Stage
The second concert will take place on Sunday, 27 September at 6:00 PM, at Tétouan’s Cinéma Théâtre Espagnol. For this performance, Solisti Lucani will share the stage with Ensemble Choral Assalam, creating the project’s central artistic encounter.
The Sound of Ensemble Choral Assalam
Under the artistic coordination of Samir Bahajin, Ensemble Choral Assalam features 14 Moroccan artists. The formation combines oud, nay, keyboard, violin and percussion with a solo singer and six choristers. As a result, its sound reflects the richness of Morocco’s musical traditions through an expressive contemporary arrangement.
Culture Open to Everyone
Both concerts will be free and open to the public. Beyond their artistic dimension, they reflect the spirit of Tétouan and Matera’s 2026 cultural programme, which places accessibility, exchange and dialogue at its centre.

Above all, Suoni Mediterranei Tétouan celebrates what music can achieve beyond language and borders. By bringing Italian and Moroccan artists together, the project transforms Tétouan into a meeting point for heritage, creativity and a distinctly Mediterranean sense of connection.
